brew day 9/14/19 water from the La Jolla tap steeping grains are unmalted wheat and flaked barley. added grains to 1 gal of 165 water, steeped at 158 for 40 min. rinsed quickly with 180 deg water, squeezed bag by hand, brought to 3.5 gal to 160 deg, stirred in all extract. heated on new gas burner, thermometer broke, boiled over, moved inside. boiled as per recipe. cooled with cooled in sink until warm, poured into carboy, pitched yeast pack several hours later. fermented warm, 69-73. krausen fell on day 7, racked on day 9 (9/23) onto dryhops. day 9 dryhopped for 6 days in secondary, kegged after 2 weeks(?) sg 1.014 verdict: very good, everybody likes it. hop smell and esp. flavor are strong as fuck. If I was to tweak it, I'd dilute it a bit to make it a session, dial back the dryhops slightly, and up the bittering hops a tiny bit |
